Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.1/100, a mean average of 68.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 17.2.

If you only listen to the singles from this band, you might think they're just a throwback to mid-90s female-fronted alternative/grunge acts like Hole and Veruca Salt. And that would be perfectly fine really, but the deeper cuts here reveal that Lia Metcalfe is actually a very talented blues singer, backed by some very smart musicians who can do both the 90s grunge and 70s blues-rock stomp with equal proficiency, and without veering into heavy-metal territory — though they do come close on occasion. I should add that you won't hear any auto-tune, or bubbly synths, or symphony orchestras on this record either.

There's a darkness to most (if not all) of these songs, and if there's a criticism to be made here it's that the album doesn't really give the listener much of a break from that (though this is obviously not a problem for some people.) Nevertheless, this is just a really good, straight-up rock album that will grow on you if you let it.

Not only the best debut album of 2022 but one of the best albums period, proving that The Beatles aren’t the only good thing to come out of Liverpool

Believe the hype
