The most exciting collection of new ideas in one place this year. I can’t think of any other artist or band that has mixed so many influences and made it clear exactly why they all came together. What I love even more than that is that they have such a consistent visual identity, and it’s obvious that they have a lot more to show and tell. I for one look forward to seeing and hearing it all.
Best track: Irony. Utility. Pretext. I don’t know how they did it, but this mixes Detroit techno, gospel, soul, punk and industrial all in one song.
This is really good. But I feel that in this debut, there are some qualities that are capping this album for me. The main issue for me is that I feel the singer slurs his vocals. Even though they are soulful. Also the grandness of the album weirdly enough feels a bit cheap.

HOT. DAMN!!!!
Ugh. I can't express just how excellent this album is, in a year filled with excellent albums. This stands, so triumphantly, among the strongest LPs of the year. 100% recommend. I mean, it pulls from everywhere, from soul, to post punk, to industrial, to whatever you want. This isn't changing the game, but damn does it give it some fresh blood.
