I don't think it would be an exaggeration at all to say Brian Eno is one of the most important and influencial people in popular music. Although he has released a number of essential solo records (such as Another Green World and Here Come the Warm Jets), his greatest achievements were as a producer on numerous groundbreaking and influencial albums like Talking Heads' Remain in Light, David Bowie's Berlin trioligy and U2's Joshua Tree.
Simply put, without Eno music would nowhere near be the same as it is today

One of the most underrated musicians of rock history. Every time I listen to him he gets to blow my mind.
Absolute musical genius, completely pivotal and earth-shatteringly important, amazing. And very beautiful yet super-clever music, he is made of the earth

I don't know why, but everything I listen to from this guy puts me to sleep. Earthling put me to sleep in general, but especially the parts he produced. Low sounds just like elevator music. The Joshua Tree was overly poppy for me.
Even albums that were simply inspired by Eno, such as Kid A, I don't understand.

to be fair, eno has had his hand in a few very stale pies in the past.. i'm thinking devo/david bowie. however, his ambient series and another green world are stunning atmospheres that are not neccesarily best enjoyed consciously.. but if you put them on in the background, you'll notice a very subtle change in vibe.. try listening to "on land" on very large speakers..
