The Beach Boys took a trip to... yes, have you guessed it?..
That's correct! They took a trip to Holland! Can't say if it also sounds like it was made in Holland, but I do know that the trip to the foreign country resulted in an adventurous album, especially when held up against the previous "Carl and the Passions – "So Tough"". With "Holland" you get an mini album within the album, the California Saga trilogy. You also get a hit song, "Sail On, Sailor", a lightly psychedelic track, "Steamboat", two soulful ballads, "Leaving This Town" and "Only with You" and a song called "Funky Pretty" which is pretty funky, but the true mind-blower is "The Trader". If you get the CD, you'll also get a quite obscure EP with spoken word narration and some odd background music. Another unsung masterpiece by The Beach Boys.

The last thing I expected from Elton John was an 11-minute-long progressive rock-opener. Didn't see the two rockers "Your Sister Can't Twist (But She Can Rock 'n Roll)" and "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting" coming either. I've always been under the impression that Elton John only made piano-driven gay pop, but this album proved me wrong. Not that there's anything wrong with piano-driven gay pop!

The first documentary film I saw about a Beatle was the one in 2011 who took its name from this album. George Harrison was a great guy and this album also reflects the key elements of his personality. Some of his most spiritual, beautiful songs are present here.

The most beatlesque Beatles-related album outside The Beatles. The opening bass lines of the title-track reminds me of "Sun King", which naturally hints at Paul in great form musically. I was so confused when I first found out that Paul formed a band named Wings after The Beatles, but the odd name does make sense since Wings truly were an uplifting band. "Jet" was the first song I checked out from his post-Beatles band.

John Lennon at his most chilled out! The political issues are not highlighted extensively this time around. Instead, there seems to be more a focus on the sound of "taking it one day at a time".

Ringo is the greatest and truly the star(r) on this, his greatest album, his greatest maybe because each and every Beatles member performs on it AND writes one or more of its songs. Essentially a late Beatles album with Ringo performing all the lead vocals. What's not to love?

Sad songs and a sad story to go with it. There's a jazzy, chaotic late night vibe to it and while it doesn't reach for perfection the same way as "Transformer", the messy style of the album actually corresponds well to its depressing themes.

Queen doing more than all right on their debut album. Great modern times rock 'n' roll, glam rock- and heavy metal-influenced, but not quite as progressive yet. Definitely their most youthful album in a quite innocent and charmful way.

Overambitious tales from topographic oceans, and something do to with God and the universe, etc.! This might be one giant pretentious mess of a double album with ideas far above the station, but what can I say? I'm glad they tried, and whilst not a perfect execution, it definitely has its transcendental moments.
