Top 32 Music Albums of 1977
by Mother Nature's Son

My favourite albums of 1977.

Not that excited about the big punk movement from this year, somehow this is still one of my favourite years in music. Big classics as well as unknown gems!

Fills me with joy like no other album. Very uplifting and synth-heavy, extremely unpretentious, but underneath is hidden an earnestness and a glimpse of the troubled Brian Wilson's honest personality. I love you too, The Beach Boys!

Wow! Where did this come from? Dennis Wilson, the drummer kept relatively in the background, suddenly came up with the greatest Beach Boys solo album. Highly orchestrated and walls of sound backed with strongly emotional power, it's an album to blow your mind. "Thoughts of You" is one of the most haunting beautiful experiences I've ever had. So sad to think about his tragic death and the follow-up that he never finished.

Wow! This so-called "art punk" is so much better than what I normally like to refer to as "pure punk" (Sex Pistols, Ramones, Wire, etc.). These guitar riffs and textures are indeed pure art, a guiding light of an album!

There's a new wave of new feelings coming with the psycho killers of Talking Heads. Quite insane, very energetic and SO much fun!

Yeah, he's probably no stranger to most people, especially because of this album. A Billy Joel song that wasn't a hit = a song not taken from this album, pretty much! If you don't appreciate Billy Joel just the way he is, a cheesy, but talented songwriter, well, then I feel sorry for you. Piano-ridden pop rock is rarely seen better!

Jazz rock as smooth as chocolate milk. It reminds me a lot of Earth, Wind & Fire. You need this in your life!

Yeah, an overdose of cheese, but for crying out loud, who can resist this rock opera paradise? When listening to this, you definitely get the feeling that heaven can wait!

The grand illusion of Queen-style prog rock. Its sheer epicness may be very close to that of Queen, even one of the vocalists happens to be a minor Freddie Mercury. However, it's not Queen, it's just an illusion and a damn fantastic and grand one at that. Don't be fooling yourself with this one, it's great!

Hypnotically repetitive grooves and a synthetic feel topped off with paranoid vocals and even somewhat sexual noises, this album indeed feels like the end of the road in a strange way. A song like "Cherree" will scare you with its deeply disturbing combination of euphoria and paranoia. Then there's "Frankie Teardrop", a monotone musical piece with shocking screams coming out of nowhere. An unpleasant ghost ride, but what a ride!
