Top 100 Music Albums of 2014
by benpaco

Alright, I've finally listened to enough to make a chart. That said, I'm still not well versed in 2014. Still haven't finished several of our top albums, even. This will continue to change and evolve, but here's how things stack up right now. ALL albums I've listened to in 2014 will be on here unless I go over 100 albums, whether the albums are good or bad. I'd say right now the line of good/meh can be drawn at Post Tropical (as in its the last good album before meh), and the line of meh/bad can be drawn at Transgender Dysphoria Blues (as in last meh album before bad).

It's weird to go from Inon Zur to this guy (The Hills Have Eyes 2, The Tudors, Need for Speed: Carbon), but it somehow feels right. Zur's music was always so slight while being so large, it was rather fitting for the mainly interior games before this. Confined to hallways or, at best, alleys, that made more sense. Now that the games have taken on the utterly gigantic size that they have, maybe this makes sense. Still, it feels somewhat odd to change composers, and while Morris' work is good as a whole, it becomes repetitive or too try-hard at moments, whereas Zur's efforts felt much more ... well, effortless, frankly.

Now, just looking solely at the soundtrack, as opposed to the music, this was a bit disappointing. The Dawn Will Come's version on here just isn't anything special, whereas the in-game version is way better. The instrumentals made it here, but the bards' songs didn't. Bit disappointed in both of those choices.

Outstanding 2014 chart! I think anyone willing to finish a top 100 year chart and provide detailed comments deserves major props. Some favorites of mine on here include the wonderful Lost in the Dream, After the Disco, This Is All Yours, and Post Tropical. Great work!

Great start. I need to spend more time wiht that s. Carey album. You should check out Hot Dreams by Timber Timbre and Past Life by Lost in the Trees. I could see you loving them both.
