Lots of Seventies, I know. I cannot help it. Homer Simpson Syndrome ("Rock attained perfection in 1974"). I was only 20 when the Eighties began, but for me Music basically died then. It is pathetic. I tried to keep an open mind, though. Honest.

Acoustic Punk. I discovered him on my first trip to London in 78. He just had the EP The Paranoid Ward/The Bedroom Tapes out. I fell in love immediately. He can do no wrong. "You and me are just little fishes".

This is not a Compilation, just some songs recorded between 74 and 77. Probably too weird even for Coyne to be included on his other albums. At least that is my explanation. Weird, of course, in this case is a synonym for utterly wonderful. Especially: Mona, where’s my trousers?

This is the one album that will always cheer me up. I am a city dweller, but boy, do I wish to be a country boy, whenever I hear this. Early to bed, early to rise. Fiddle when I can work when I should. - In addition to the music I love the way Denver talks. I can listen to his introducing the band/orchestra endlessly.

I saw her live probably the first time in 1980. She came on stage wearing sun glasses. That to me seemed rather odd. But after a couple of songs she took them off and I could understand. She had by far the most beautiful eyes any mortal being ever possessed. I could not concentrate on the music anymore. And the music is very nearly as beautiful as her eyes! And luckily the music is still there. For years I could not find anyone who could stand her. Very happy that she seems to be very popular around here.

Like everyone else I had Velvet Underground and Nico in here. But this is the album I grew up with. It is a compilation and should not qualify. But I just had to make an exception. At the time I did not know it was a compilation. For me, it is just The VU. Also, I prefer the Cola to the banana.

When I started listening to music seriously in 1974 one thing was crystal clear. I would not fall for fake music. Or as it was called then progressive rock or avantgarde or art. No Genesis, no Yes, no ELP, no Pink Floyd no Led Zeppelin. Really a punk attitude. I mellowed down since then. In the case of Led Zeppelin I even became a convert. With Pink Floyd, I can understand why people like them. I can tolerate Pink Floyd to some extent and admit that some of their stuff is not really bad (I still hate The Wall, though) but I do only really care except for this one (and the very early stuff). The one with the fly that gets crushed in the end. (Reminds me of a story by Knut Hamsun, by the way.)

This one is unique. It is the only album that results in me humming one of the songs the whole next day. It is impossible not to have one song in my mind. And incredibly it is always a different one. Art School Canteen , Punchbag, Hit Factory or one of the others. Everything here a gem.

I can barely understand that she did not become a superstar. But being totally ignored? She is not even present in ITunes! Of course, I was lucky to have seen her live a couple of times in the 70ies when she was the lover of some bloke in my home town. So she played in some pubs to 30 listeners. While she should have filled Carnegie Hall. Beautiful voice, incredible melodies, and in addition great step dancing too.

The best thing that Punk music brought us. Like in many cases this one record would have been enough for a career. And although I like Join Hands and some other LPs I could argue that they would have been even greater if they stopped after this one.

I totally agree with you that music went downhill rapidly after the 70's, but my taste is completely different to yours. 60's & 70's are by far the best decades for music.
