Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by Liedzeit

Lots of Seventies, I know. I cannot help it. Homer Simpson Syndrome ("Rock attained perfection in 1974"). I was only 20 when the Eighties began, but for me Music basically died then. It is pathetic. I tried to keep an open mind, though. Honest.

By a bizarre coincidence the first album I ever bought is not only the best album of all times but it has the best cover art as well. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2014]

This is the one album that will always cheer me up. I am a city dweller, but boy, do I wish to be a country boy, whenever I hear this. Early to bed, early to rise. Fiddle when I can work when I should. - In addition to the music I love the way Denver talks. I can listen to his introducing the band/orchestra endlessly. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2014]

Like everyone else I had Velvet Underground and Nico in here. But this is the album I grew up with. It is a compilation and should not qualify. But I just had to make an exception. At the time I did not know it was a compilation. For me, it is just The VU. Also, I prefer the Cola to the banana. [First added to this chart: 07/23/2014]

I remember the day I bought this. What a great feeling to feel you are among the first to recognize a work of genius. Also, I did an evil experiment. I let my four month old brother listen to it. It did him no harm, I am glad to report. Probably made him the great guy he is now. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2014]

This is a great record. And of course, it would have been even better if the title track filled both sides. One of the most mesmerizing songs of all time. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2014]

People like this better than Indiscreet. And in a way I can understand. It contains some hits and and not one track that is less than excellent. The one thing that speaks in favor of Indescreet is variety. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2014]

One of the artists that the best of all DJs, Alan Bangs brought to my attention. And am I eternally thankful. He even had a program for a time called The Modern Dance. Saw them for the nth time recently. And David Thomas had to sit during the gig. But he still rocks. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2014]

This is easy. They made many great albums. But this is the one I put on 9 out of 10 times when I feel like listening to Steely Dan. And I can still narrow it down. It is Deacon Blues that sums up all that Steely Dan is all about. [First added to this chart: 07/16/2014]

This was not an easy decision. 77 or More Songs About Buildings And Foot. Well, when in doubt, go for the earlier. Also, there is a funny story connected to this. Psycho Killer is a monster of a track. But at the time I was worried that it might have some evil disco quality. So I thought, that maybe I should not like it. But then John Peel played it in one of his programs. So, I had the blessing of the Mighty One. And I rushed out and bought the record. That is the kind of guy I was. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.4/100, a mean average of 90.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.0.

Perhaps the most honest chart I've come across on this site ~ no peer pressure here! Although not in my top 100, I really love seeing Karla Bonoff & (Australia's own) Gary Shearston in this chart.

I totally agree with you that music went downhill rapidly after the 70's, but my taste is completely different to yours. 60's & 70's are by far the best decades for music.

Such a great chart! Siouxsie And The Banshees, Nico and Sparks in top 10 are my favourite picks here. Also Comes a Time as favourite Neil Young record? That's pretty cool

Not really my thing and like you say I think there’s a tad too much focus on the 70s, but really like your notes and eclecticism!!
