I have no qualms with placing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at #1. It deals with some pretty heavy material in an innovative, and surprisingly marketable, way. Every song is infinitely listenable, over and over again.
Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison, the album only Cash himself wanted made, is also some of his finest work ever. Though it may one day be eclipsed by American IV, which is an amazing album in it's own right. I get a little teary every time I hear, or, particularly, see the video for, When the Man Comes Around.
Clash's London Calling ranks third for me. I rank it highly for the exact reason that I dislike some other albums, it jumps around all over the place. Somehow this album manages to incorporate reggae, ska, punk, jazz, and good old-fashioned Rock 'n Roll without losing it's audience. Oh and Rudie Can't Fail is one of my all-time favorite songs.
Elvis' The Sun Sessions represents some of the finest work of one of the indisputable legends of rock. Nothing more need be said about this one.
I included the Pogues Rum, Sodomy, And the Lash because it's a great album by the greatest Irish band of all time. And yes, I know U2 is Irish, but I'd much rather listen to the Pogues.
Jimi Hendrix deserves to be on any greatest album list. Pick any Hendrix album you like, they're all good. Though Are You Experienced is my personal favorite.
Black Sabbath's Paranoid added a whole new dimension to rock. Very dark and heavy it paved the way for every hard rock/metal band to come since. While I don't love every song on the album, it still stands as my favorite album ever in the genre.
The Ramones invented punk as we know it and should be included here for that reason alone. This album is required listening for any punk fan.
I included Elvis Hitler's Disgraceland because it's just a guilty pleasure of mine. It's a hard and fast mix of punk and rockabilly with tracks like Cool Daddy in a Cadillac, Hot Rod to Hell, Green Haze(the Green Acres theme song to the music of Hendrix' Purple Haze), and my personal favorite Ten Wheels for Jesus. Just a fast and fun album.

Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0.
