I have been a long-time music fan and my tastes are very eclectic, I know. I have often thought, when placing a stack of used CDs on the counter to purchase at my favorite music store, "Should one person be buying all of those together?" The entries on this list were thoughtfully placed as representing my true music favorites...the albums that can listen through the whole way without skipping any tracks and the ones that I repeatedly have chosen to listen to during long road trips. Yep. These are my favorites.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

A chart that I believe that the creator actually listens to. kudos to you. You are not a fake hipster like most of the site members.

thanks. 2001 by Dre was previously my favorite album, so it gonna be hard to replace it. i think that Dre did an amazing production job in that album (i recognize though that it's musically not the finest album in hip-hop), it looks more like a best of than a studio album. speaking about taking off albums, you could've received a better rating if you didn't have Pet Sound in your chart (just some silly surfers for me (except Wouldn't It Be Nice, which quite amazing).

I do understand this. And 6 months ago, you would have found a much heavier, dominating influence from the 1960-1980 period. But it just isn't where I am right now. This is what I am listening to now, it will change, but for now, well it is what it is :D. And nice chart by the way.

Thanks for your comments Captain. Good list by you too I'd say. You can never have enough Sabbath and you've reminded me that I haven't listed to my Smashing Pumpkins records enough for a long while now :0).
