Top 50 Greatest Music Albums
by BoDu4ka
This chart is not exactly list of the greatest albums IMO, rather the albums I'd like to listen again when I don't know what exactly I want to listen to. For example I don't think that Three Dollar Bill is greater than Are You Experienced.
Honorable mention: The Killers - Hot Fuss; Ленинград - Мат без ÑлектричеÑтва; Opeth - Orchid; Mercyful Fate - Melissa; Slint - Spiderland; Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood; Converge - Axe to Fall; Black Flag - Damaged; Agalloch - The Mantle; Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral; Husker Du - Zen Arcade; Sonic Youth - Sister; The Streets – Original Pirate Material; Neutral Milk Hotel – In the Aeroplane Over the Sea; The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead; U2 - The Joshua Tree; ÐукцЫон - Птица; Gojira – From Mars To Sirius; Television – Marquee Moon; Jeff Buckley – Grace; Kyuss – Blues for the Red Sun; The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Electric Ladyland; Massive Attack – Blue Lines; Blondie – Parallel Lines; , My Dying Bride – Turn Loose the Swans; David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars; Jeff Buckley - Grace, System of a Down - Toxicity, Love - Forever Changes, Foo Fighters - The Colour and the Shape

Top 50 Greatest Music Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:
av = trimmed mean average rating an item has currently received.
n = number of ratings an item has currently received.
m = minimum number of ratings required for an item to appear in a 'top-rated' chart (currently 10).
AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 78.8/100, a mean average of 74.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 14.0.
