I've spent the past 30 years of my life owning and operating a mobile DJ service. I've compiled a list of what I have found to be the essentials to have on hand at a wedding reception. These albums have mass appeal and are in no way for the home headphone audiophile and record connoisseur. To DJ at a wedding reception, you must always remember that you're there to cater to a diverse audience. So, throw away your statements about a song being "overplayed" or "overrated." You're being paid to please a crowd and to keep them entertained. I'm posting this list in the hope that it will prove to be a valuable resource to others.

For some reason, undesirable drunk girls like to hold their drink in the air and shout (not sing) along to this song. That vision always taints this song for me.

"What a Wonderful World" is one of those songs that crosses bridges the generations at a wedding. As of April 2014, Louis Armstrong's 1967 recording has sold 2,173,000 downloads in the US after it was released digitally. It still holds up after all these years.

"Electric Boogie" (known to all of the guests as "The Electric Slide"), was actually a hit in Jamaica way back in 1976, originally. This line dance never seems to lose popularity at wedding receptions.

"Sweet Home Alabama" No matter what the compass says, the South will rise again...and folks will rise up out of their seats to dance and sing along with this crowd-pleaser. There always seems to be that guy at every wedding reception that will yell out "Play some Skynyrd!" Hopefully, this will shut him up.
