Top 77 Greatest Music Albums
by mutley88

This chart a work in progress still listening and adding. Much as I do like a lot of the classics Stones Hendrix Who ect..prefer to highlight some overlooked
classics aswell as the obvious.I find it difficult to rate one above the other, so rather regard it as a list of my own personal favourites. Hope it encourages some diverse listening... My sincere apologies if any of my comments offend their not meant to.

It may not be an authentic Blues album, more an authentic guitar album. The kid can play.

For me there was always something more authentic about the Blues than Rap, case in point.

I genuinely thought this was some lost 70's exploitation movie soundtrack, a genre I avidly collect. It plays like one. Still a favourite though.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 10% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.0/100, a mean average of 88.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.8/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.6.

Great chart. I love the psychedelic rock and black music you have included. Plus the Unthanks are great!

Good to see a "rare gems" chart. Keep it going. I like Railroad Earth at No. 10. (And May Blitz / Fuzzy Duck / Tonton Macoute - great). I have to admit I haven't heard of many of them. Hope you get to a 100.

Not that you have to get Trout Mask, but I offer, if you want, a possible trail to it. Start with Captain's Safe as Milk, jam on "Sure Nuff", "Zig Zag", and "Electricity". Then give Mirror Man a few listens. Captain is difficult to get, but once you do, I believe you may appreciate it. Peace.

You've given me new stuff to listen to. Thank you for that. Solid Air by John Martyn was a surprise (never heard it before now). It had me from the very start. Well researched chart amigo. Saved as a fave.

You're the only other person I've seen who has Celebrate the Bullet in their top 100. Everybody should as far as I'm concerned. 50% of these I've never heard of but since you have things like rotary connection, Fred Neil, Nektar, I'm just going to presume that they're fuckin great also.

Maggot Brain is a delightfully insane #1. Grace and The La's are fantastic albums, too. Looking forward to seeing you expand this list to 100!

This chart is funkier than a mosquito's tweeter! There's a couple of LPs I truly detest, but them aside you've got some absolute stonkers (Incredible Bongo Band, Baby Huey, Cymande to name but 3) and I'm sure as hell going to have a proper plunder of the rest. Great stuff!
