Dream Pop, Psychedelic Rock, Dub,
This album was the greatest aural experience I've ever had when I first listened to it. I never felt this way about any music before. Even after listening to it for many years, I still can't find any other music to be as innovative and beautiful as this. It's a perfect representation of everything I love about music as a whole combining several different sounds of the 90s. This album is so timeless and also very far ahead of its time to me. This is easily my top album recommendation for anyone who loves music the same way I do.

So many different compositions, textures, and sounds create an atmosphere that is as difficult to describe as pronouncing the title of this album. This album has it all from fast and complex to fluid and gorgeous. I love the serene ambient tracks just as much as the more intense IDM.

This album really changed how I listened to music because of the context behind it. J Dilla created this album in his deathbed, and it shows how he died for his love of music. It's a portrait of the soul that feels like life flashing past your eyes before you die. The analog samples and unquantized beat sequences highlight just how talented he was with music and the equipment of that era. The sound is very relevant to modern day music, especially Hip-hop. I personally think of J Dilla as the Jimi Hendrix of hip hop.

This band's discography is so fantastic it's hard for me to choose just one album. "Geogaddi" is a bit more complex than this while "Music Has The Right To Children" I find to be a bit more accessible. I find this record to be a good middle ground housing some of my favorite cuts from the discography. Very essential and definitive for the Boards of Canada as well as the genre they built upon. Songs like Peacocks Tail simply feel like they're alive. This album has an emotion that sort of feels nostalgic and calming. It encapsulates the same comfort as a peaceful childhood memory.

Personal Radiohead Favorite, though OK Computer is pretty much the same level of entertaining to me. This just has it beat in terms of production and musical innovations in my opinion. I really appreciate the more electronic music style on here.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.3/100, a mean average of 91.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.4.

I prefer charts like this that have one album per artist - that canvas and recognise the musical genius across the decades, genres & nations. The comments on some of the album choices are 'gold' and the selections are deep & full of surprises.
I also like it that I have ZERO top 100 albums in common with this chart (not surprising as we are likely to be 2 generations apart in age) - but this chart will be my 'musical education' for the week!

Again stand by my last comment, adore this chart and your little write-ups. I've listened to a lot more stuff since last April however, so can give you a few 60s/70s recommendations that have an ahead-of-their-time quality you might enjoy:

The Red Krayola - The Parable Of Arable Land (1967)
The United States Of America - The United States Of America (1968)
Nico - Desertshore (1970)
Tangerine Dream - Zeit (1972)
Faust - Faust IV (1973)

I cringe a bit at your hiphop picks, but at least they’re there. Although I would deem Graduation far from Kanye’s greatest album, the best track on there is indeed ‘Flashing Lights’. Furthermore, your taste looks very Pitchfork, I would have loved to see more personality in your chart (aside from the Japanese picks). But not a bad list at all.
