This album highlights so much of what makes Dev Hynes a great artist, and one of the very best in my opinion. I love Angels Pulse, but Negro Swan is more entertaining and has much stronger vocal performances. This album creates a modern classic sound with a socially conscious theme.

This is easily the best video game soundtrack in existence, and top tier ambient album at the same time.

I recognize James Blake as one of the great early innovators of Modern R&B. So many of his production and vocal styles have been taking over the genre.

One of the most mysterious artists on this list. Jai . I actually really love the creativity of his production & vocal performances. While it's very unfinished and rough around the edges I feel like this could be a top 5 contender if it was never leaked and the project was finalized the way it was intended. Jai Paul's has such an original sound that is so expressive and vibrant. A very special artist that I need to hear more music from, and heavily anticipate his work in the future.

I personally find this to be superior to Channel Orange in nearly every way. Production is on point as well as the wide variety of features. A solid future classic.

This is the mixtape that introduced me to Death Grips, and still one of my absolute favorites. I have never heard such innovation in Hip-Hop since the time I heard this. Either way, there is no way we won't all be talking about Death Grips in the future. Nothing else sounded like it then, but a lot of new music sound like them now.

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.3/100, a mean average of 91.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.4.

I prefer charts like this that have one album per artist - that canvas and recognise the musical genius across the decades, genres & nations. The comments on some of the album choices are 'gold' and the selections are deep & full of surprises.
I also like it that I have ZERO top 100 albums in common with this chart (not surprising as we are likely to be 2 generations apart in age) - but this chart will be my 'musical education' for the week!

Again stand by my last comment, adore this chart and your little write-ups. I've listened to a lot more stuff since last April however, so can give you a few 60s/70s recommendations that have an ahead-of-their-time quality you might enjoy:

The Red Krayola - The Parable Of Arable Land (1967)
The United States Of America - The United States Of America (1968)
Nico - Desertshore (1970)
Tangerine Dream - Zeit (1972)
Faust - Faust IV (1973)

I cringe a bit at your hiphop picks, but at least they’re there. Although I would deem Graduation far from Kanye’s greatest album, the best track on there is indeed ‘Flashing Lights’. Furthermore, your taste looks very Pitchfork, I would have loved to see more personality in your chart (aside from the Japanese picks). But not a bad list at all.
