I've always wanted to do this and it was much harder than I thought. I tried to balance the greatness of the entire album (not a select few tracks), historical significance as well as which album I love more. A lot of back and forth and a great excuse to listen to all these albums back to back to back! Enjoy!

The Bob Dylan of my generation, every word mattered and every note was filled with passion. The guitars scream, the drums rage and the bass keeps me moving but damn, these songs are poppy. Not only are these songs meaningful but they are so catchy and filled with more hooks than most band's careers. What was revolutionary about them is that they seemed to combine styles of every great artist ever while remaining original themselves. Something all bands aspire to do.

What can I say that hasn't already been said on this site? It's ranked as #1 all time for goodness sake. All the songs are densely built upon layers of beautiful instrumentation that the musicians exceed their own talents. York's voice is piercing yet pleasant and guides us through some of the most exciting music made in a very long time. An absolute triumph of an album that years later the band still stands under it's shadow.

Malkmus' lyrical storm are mini storybooks containing beginning, middles and ends. His sly wit is directly in the listeners face while the music steadily grows out of it's lo-fi roots and experiments into jazz, punk, rock and folk. Very progressive for an "indie' album helped by the addition of new drummer, Steve West. Silence Kit, Gold Soundz and Range Life are some of Pavement's very best tracks but this album contains two of my very favorite songs ever: Newark Wilder and Stop Breathin. So mellow, so amazing!

One of my all time favorite albums! This and the White Album were the two records that I attempted to learn every track. I poured over every guitar note and every Brock scream as I dissected every amazing song. This album was so influential over my guitar playing that years later I can still hear the Modest Mouse inspiration. The dynamics the band showcases are very impressive too. With the raw energy of songs like Cowboy Dan, Isaac screams "Didn't move to the city, the city moved to me..." before breaking it down into a gentle soliloquy "You know, we need oxygen to breathe..." An amazing journey from start to finish.
