My Old (2013) Top Albums by sethmadsen by RoundTheBend

This is how my chart stood in 2013. It was very from the gut and no concerted effort was made to rank according to what I really thought about each album. I am now in the process of creating a chart that is score based. The score will then determine the order and I wanted to hold on to this one to see which one I like better at the end of the project. If I end up hating my end results I can always refine this one (I mostly agree with this chart and just needs maybe 50 tweaks to it or so).

What my old prompt said:
Hot damn... after 20 gets tough for me. My own subjective opinion is getting in the way! I think I have decided to rate albums based on how much I like it. How much do I think the content makes a whole album, instead of a few good songs, and some filler. I got rid of the whole one album per artist thing. I realize this chart is heavy in one direction... but I didn't create it to compete, I created it because these are honestly the albums I like, and my favorite bands obviously are going to override other possibly critically or popularly acclaimed (especially on this site) albums... I don't care, these are the ones I like.

Amazing album! Some of the Beatles best performances are on this album. I especially like the string of unfinished songs at the end that Paul put together. I think this album is just slightly better than Sgt. Pepper's, but not by much. Interesting that this is the stuff they last recorded together. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

There is something truly magical about this album for me. It always mentally and emotionally captures me and doesn't let me go until the silly loop of laughter at the end. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

I know OK Computer is supposed to be their Magnum Opus, but I honestly thing this one is. I think artistically they went a level that they have yet to match. This is their Sgt. Pepper's in opinion. It has that same quality of magic in the air. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

To hear U2 transform from War, The Joshua Tree, Achtung Baby, and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb has been a trip. This album, however, I think is their best. The guitar solo in Bullet the Blue Sky, the way 90% of the lyrics in Exit finish before the song really starts, the emptiness of Running to Stand Still. All of this has grabbed a hold of my soul and has not let go since 1987. U2 as a band... I think they are turning into the next Rolling Stones in the sense that they don't know when to stop :). The raw emotion throughout this album, and all of their albums is what keeps me coming back for more. One of my favorite lyrics of all time: "It's ok to eat fish, because they don't have any feelings." Kurt had an amazing way of conveying stuff through odd sentences like this. Picking the best R.E.M. album for me is difficult, but this one seems to capture so much of their different creative spells, that I had to go with this one. Great acoustic stuff with Drive, jangling guitar countryish sounding stuff with Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight, their pop ballad of Everybody Hurts, their droning beauty with the Sweetness Follows, harder rock stuff with Ignorland, and another R.E.M. style pop song with Man on the Moon. Wow, what an awesome collection of work. Begins with one of RHCPs best tracks and ends with a Robert Johnson cover. So many timeless tracks on this album. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

The most chill, melancholy album that isn't pretentious. Beck is just amazing, period. This "break" up album is so honest as well. Well done. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

This album is just as pivotal to me as Nevermind in the rebirth of music we had in the beginning of the 1990s. The multi-layering of guitar work is unbelievable. I think I remember hearing that Soma has over 40 guitar tracks layered on it. Amazing work all around, even if it was all Billy, minus the amazing Jimmy work. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

This album never ceases to amaze me from start to finish. It has very good opening tracks that grab my attention well, but also develops a lot of character by the end of it. [First added to this chart: 07/06/2016]

I prefer this in some ways to your main Top 100. I love U2, Beatles, REM and Radiohead. Going To California is my favourite Led Zep song too. And I am also put off Rubber Soul because of Run For Your Life. It spoils the whole album for me. I don't like Lennon's misogyny. Overall a great chart all round.

I actually like this one more I think. Abbey Road and Kid A mostly did it

I think this list best represents the albums I naturally came to love and listened to the most, especially in my musically formative years.

I think this list is my creative side and my current list is my logical side - if they had a baby, it'd probably be a decent list.
