Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Very interesting, from jazz to metal. Was beginning to think this was another hipster chart, but then came Judas Priest, BB King and others. I don't know many artists here though, so I'll come back and give you better rating (if you deserve it!) when I listen to them

Good chart mate. Lots of different genres. You obviously have a very eclectic taste in music. I like most of your albums. I haven't heard the jazz ones but I will get round to it. Only album here I don't like is the Basement Tapes. I am a huge fan of Dylan however I like the recent release The Basement Tapes Raw. Just not the 1975 release. Still it's a fan favourite so I must be in the minority. I must say I didn't understand your comment on my page saying you think my chart lacks diversity. Although you are quite entitled to your opinion I feel my chart is fairly diverse. I have rock, pop, psychedelia. R'n B, Motown,Gospel,and even one rap album. Okay its Eminem but I have Kanye on my decade list. My chart may not be as diverse as yours but it is my taste in music. I am listening to new stuff all the time. Anyway thanks for the comment and rating. You have made me think.

I apparently found this chart a couple years ago, but I have a much greater appreciation for it now. Seeing Mingus, Arcade Fire, Furtwangler and DJ Shadow rubbing shoulders is a trip. I'll keep coming back to this for classical recommendations--you were right about Pollini!

That Mingus record is legendary, not my personal favorite in Jazz but it's so epic. I love that you have In A Silent Way up there. A lot of artists I don't recognize as well, goof stuff!
