Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by album guru joe

My list consists of what i believe are the greatest albums recorded given thier time of release and the technology availabe with recording the albums (eg. "SMiLE" was done on eight track, "Sgt.Peppers", "Revolver", "Pet Sounds" all on four track),the future influence the albums had on other artists' and the course of contempary music.
By no means is this list "My Favourite Albums", if that was the case it would be dominanted by 1960's music completely...lol.
I only wish it was available for me to list my top 1,000 albums too give a far more comprehensive list that covers how many awesome albums are really out thier....anyways enjoy :)

I discovered this album...well heard about it in my mid teens...was curious after hearing "Pet Sounds"...and i became on those freaks..lol... who searched for every bootleg of the album i could get my hands on....and finally it's been given an offically release...my track list was not far of the mark(a SMiLE nerd thing...lol)... :) Anyways.....to think this was concieved, written, then recorded and produced (complete or in fragments) by a 24 year old....blows my head away....and all done on a primative eight track recording system is nothong short of mind blowing...Brian Wilson = Genius [First added to this chart: 10/19/2011]

My parents are from Liverpool... i was exposed too this amazing band from a very early age...one of my first listening experiences was like alot of kids from my generation "Yellow Submarine"...30 years have past and this is has easily stood out as the best Beatles album ever...(though the track mentioned prior is one of the weaker tracks to me now) this album is brillant in every aspect...early hard rock (Taxman & And Your Bird Can Sing), Pop (Good Day Sunshine, I Want To Tell You, Doctor Robert), Psychedelia (Tomorrow Never Knows, She Said She Said, I'm Only Sleeping), World (Love You To)...and the rest is...gold, brillant.
And know i'm a dad...my little girl loves "Yellow Submarine"...eternal music that streaches from generation to generation...

Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 84.5/100, a mean average of 83.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 84.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 12.1.

38 albums in common. Excellent chart. Some stone-cold classics here. Only criticism would be I would like to see a couple of more modern albums but that is your taste. More notes too, they are great.
