this is how a concept album should be done. there's a long buildup, then the main melody comes in, they slowly add layers to it until you're basically listening to a weird art pop song, then they deconstruct everything until you're just listening to like rain drops in a cave or something and then they bring everything back for a brilliant ending. it's honestly one of the best albums ever made in my opinion.

Dream pop, baroque pop
I was always intrigued by this album, but I didn't listen to it enough times before I decided that it was good but not great. coming back to it changed my mind completely. what Julia holter's doing on this album is insane, and I wouldn't be surprised if this album becomes a lot more respected in a decade or two. she's just so unafraid of waiting it out, which really works in her favor, especially when the payoff is an entrancing, majestic, psychedelic, and totally left-field climax. she creates a whole different world, and that's just about the best thing an album can offer in my opinion.
"Silhouette" as a whole is kind of a weird song but the last minute or so with the building strings is really good and intense. [First added to this chart: 09/11/2018]
