40 greatest albums of all time. I have tried to be genre-nonspecific... a lot of the charts on this site seem rather 'rockist' and I have attempted to avoid that. Criteria is roughly 70% the record's influence (or assumed future influence if it's a recent album) and 30% my personal enjoyment of the record. A couple of passion picks in here, i.e. Flower Boy and Songs About Jane.

Simply the greatest record of all time. Supremely important for subsequent hip hop, R&B and pop. We can hear the influence of Ms. Hill's musical phrasing in pretty much any popular genre currently. We can hear the influence of the production in pretty much all pop/hip hop production as well. Just a fantastic record and one that still sounds totally fresh.

IMO Dylan's best album. Best lyrically and with some of his strongest tunes.

Kanye's most influential album. Practically started the emo-hop wave of the 2010s. The songwriting on this record is surprisingly plaintive and subdued.

My personal favorite record of all time. It remains to be seen how truly influential this record will be, but we can already see Frank's influence on the modern pop/hip hop sphere. The tempo has slowed, the emotions are more apparent, the production has stripped down... and the number of artists of all genres that cite Frank and specifically this album is huge.
