This is a much better list than that promoted by magazines like ‘Rolling Stone’, ‘New Musical Express’, ‘Q’, ‘Spin’ and so on. It includes many albums of considerable influence and artistry – ‘Ys’ or the even better ‘Milk-Eyed Mender’ is an utter must for a 2000s list that ‘Rolling Stone’ and ‘New Musical Express’ both wholly omitted. Three albums by Animal Collective is also highly worthwhile.
There are still too many of the usual flaws in this 2000s “best of” lists for me to give it a really high rating. The inclusion of the Strokes is itself proof.
