Top 24 Music Albums of 1977
by mrmcrook

Another great year in music. Quite hard to put in any preferable order except for the top 5 (Can't ever see them being dislodged from the top). Even those near the bottom of the list are still good albums.

My top 10 favorite songs from 1977
1. Sex Pistols - Everything. The whole album is fucking perfection
2. AC/DC - Let There Be Rock
3. Pink Floyd - Dogs
4. Fleetwood Mac - Go Your Own Way
5. UFO - Love To Love
6. Bryan Ferry - This is Tomorrow
7. Split Enz - Bold as Brass
8. George Thorogood - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer
9. Judas Priest - = placing: Sinner + Diamonds and Rust + Hear Come The Tears
10. Alan Parsons Project - I Wouldn't Want To Be Like You

98.33* Blown away when I heard this. Being very 'metal' at the time, I had no idea punk could be this good. Opened me up to a whole new range of bands 04/25 [First added to this chart: 11/06/2020]

90.87* Bon Scott era AC/DC in my opinion epitomizes the ultimate rock and roll band. Title track being one of the greatest ever rock songs. Fine mix of rock, blues and boogie and brilliant from start to finish. 06/25 [First added to this chart: 11/06/2020]

78.90* When very young, my mate across the road had this and played it often hence I'd heard it many times. It's been on my wants list for years but has been really hard to find. It's been at least 35 years since I last heard it. Amazing how your musical muscle memory works. I could pretty much hum and sing along to nearly everything on it straight off. Did you know Alan Parsons was the engineer and quite pivotal on the making of 'Dark Side of the Moon'. That's a glorious snippet of information. There's parts of this that have shades of and remind me of Alice Cooper's grandiose sound that was on the 'Welcome to my Nightmare' & 'Goes to Hell' albums, both made around the same time as this. But this is way more synth & effects driven rather than rock.. I really like it. Took years but I'm glad I finally found it. 04/25 [First added to this chart: 11/30/2024]

More fast garage rock joy with most songs clocking in at around 2 minutes or under. You know what you're getting with the Ramones. 08/25 [First added to this chart: 08/23/2025]
