Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young ~ together and apart
by Moondance

Chart under construction - will add further commentary over time.
Dateline: 22 January 2023
Late December 2022, I happened across the idea of creating a custom chart to put together the creative output of David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash & Neil Young ~ collectively, individually and with other bands.
Fast forward to 18 January 2023 and news that David Crosby has died, aged 81. I now feel more convinced that this chart, bringing together the albums that showcase the musicianship, singing & songwriting of these four creative talents will be a useful resource.
In ranking the albums within the chart, I had 3 options:
a. based on my own ranking of each album;
b. based on the collective BEA member ranking of each album;
c. based on the release date of each album or the performance date of 'live' albums.
I decided on the latter option as I feel that it best portrays the musical journey each of them took (together & apart) and how their musical careers intersected.
Note: Given the limit of 100 albums per chart and the output of the totality of CSN&Y, I have not included compilation/greatest hit albums or every 'live' album; nor have I included every Neil Young album - especially those from his latter career.

1965 (June) ~ the debut album by the Byrds, features a 23 year old David Crosby, along with other founding members Roger (Jim) McGuinn, Gene Clark & Chris Hillman. Although most of the music on the album was performed by session musicians (apart from McGuinn's 12 string Rickenbacker), the distinctive vocal harmonies are definitely those of Crosby, McGuinn & Clark.
