Top 100 Greatest Music Albums
by RupertRonco
One album per artist.
Ranking my top 100, even worse, THE greatest 100 albums of all time is hopelessly futile. The word "greatest" opens a Pandora's box of ambiguity by itself. So....
I tried to define greatest as: most influential, most groundbreaking, or best quality music from a writing and musicianship standpoint. The majority of these selections fit the aforementioned criteria, with the exception of some albums I just happen to like so much, I cannot exclude them from the list. It will remain a work in progress.
Standard selections at the end. I don't like that many of the lists are so similar, but it would be blasphemous for me to not mention them among my top 100.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 82.3/100, a mean average of 78.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 81.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 19.9.

Original content, not original context. It was in reference to you copying material and pitching it as your own.
I appreciate the feedback. It's well articulated and adds great depth to this conversation.
Music is to be shared and enjoyed, it's here to make our lives better. Your bitterness is neither well founded, nor appreciated.

Really nice list, man. Anything with both Porcupine Tree and Flaming Lips gets my vote. And you've included Dream Theater too! And so high up!

Fantastic chart, we have quite a few bands in common as well. I love how spread out the albums are in between decades.
