Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 68.6/100, a mean average of 62.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 59.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 22.3.

People puts the fuss about this sort of metal chart but then doesn't say anything about the lovely random soft rock charts that fill this website. Congrats for this reckless but dared chart. I only missed Opeth.

I like metal as much as the next person, but in this chart it's in excess.

I was a fool,to underestimate your chart, what a pity!i'm moved deeply by "last fair deal gone down",i've heard it about hundred times,so i'm going to overestimate your list till i study every bit of your selection.feel free to comment and guide me more over this aspect of music.

Geez, VideoKid, you really are very sensitive about this stuff. I don't know how it is on some of these melodic viking mathmetal message boards you visit, but we try to communicate with each other in a civilized manner here. I'm not sure on what planet having almost half of your albums be from one decade and 6 different metal subgenres could be considered diverse. I felt you deserved at least an explanation for my low score, so I was only being honest. I hope your revenge score of 5 for my chart helped you feel better about yourself. I won't bother to defend my taste. Just relax, man. It's only the internet.

Hmm...I don't know. There's some rap-rock (Nu-metal?), some electronica, some Chili Peppers and even some Hendrix. It's reasonably diverse after you get out of the top 20. I like the album title, "Nebularium."

You're right. Your chart attests to the fact that you know a lot more about death metal than I do.

doom metal, death metal, doom metal, the clash. Joannajewson is right that this list has zero diversity. You've proven yourself to be an expert on 90s-00s death metal. But why stop there?

I've only heard 3 of these, so my low score is for the lack of diversity.
