The band creates a tangible, textured atmosphere. Listening through this feels like being waist-deep in a dense broth of a swamp, a thick, heavy haze setting in confusion. At times panic ensues and it all gets a little claustrophobic. Near the end it begins to taste a little too familiar, though as a whole it's hard to place a finger on its sound, which is a good thing. Elements of Krautrock, post-rock and acid-tinged drumming really take this a step away from jazz. In the end, that's the purpose of the record, and it is well-achieved. Had a great time with this one. Shades of Gemini is among my favorite tracks of the year thus far.
