‘Nobody Can Dance’ is something of a strange beast with the 15 tracks playing out in 2 acts
Act 1: includes tracks 1-8 and are well known (up until that point) Big Star standard recorded during a studio rehearsal at Ultra-Sonic Studios, Hampstead, NY, March 1974. ‘Radio City’ had only been released one month prior in February of 74. As a long time Big Star fan these rehearsal tracks are a real treat, the band is loose, raw and Alex Chilton is spirited.
Act 2: includes tracks 9-15 recorded live at The Overton Park, Memphis Tennessee, May 1974 at what appears to be a WLYX Radio benefit gig
Sound wise its a little sludgy and sounds more like a boot leg but any Big Star live recording from this period is rare so it makes this recording special
As an FYI the 'Nobody Can Dance' title comes from an announcement prior to Big Stars performance and goes like this:
"Is everybody having a good time ? Good lets keep it that way. I spoke to the lady at the Park Commission and she said nobody can dance. I'm sorry ....... I don't know ask her ! . In the mean time don't dance , I love you"
