Gatemouth has always been a challenge to categorize as strictly a "Blues" musician and here on this album, this listener gets a true indication of how influential Jazz has been on Gatemouth's career - as it features several Duke Ellington tunes along with a couple more composed by Charlie Parker. It's probably more appropriately labelled a "Jazz Essential", but the two styles of music have intertwined throughout history. Gatemouth also plays cajun/roots/country/rocknroll etc. so his musical offering is a true Louisiana gumbo of styles.
