I dismissed this band for a long time because I wasn't really a big fan of A Horse With No Name. However, when I gave them a chance I found out they have quite a lot of good songs besides their best known track. Their greatest hits-album is a recommended listen.
The epitome of soft folk/rock, America could be accused of being somewhat twee; lacking any musical ‘edge’ and a result much of their work is ignored by the critics. The buying public, however, particularly in the US, thought differently giving the group seven US Top ten singles and four Top ten albums. Detractors may regard them as the poor man’s CSNY but America are an excellent band in their own right and wrote some great folk rock songs.
They have some great songs, but saw them live in Brisbane 2011 & were very ordinary.
Still like them though.
