Top 100 Greatest Music Albums ratings
Average Rating = (n ÷ (n + m)) × av + (m ÷ (n + m)) × AVwhere:

AV = the site mean average rating.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 10% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.8/100, a mean average of 87.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 87.9/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 8.9.

Thanks for revisiting my chart. I've been listening to a lot of 90s and 80s lately in attempt to expand my horizons. I was a child of the 70s. I still get the most enjoyment from listening to new releases though.
Today, I balanced the chronology of my chart by adding many personal favourites from the 80s, 90s and 00s and removing favourites from the 60s and 70s.
Rainey, I made a decision to pick 3 from 2010 in January and to replace them as as often I come to appreciate other 2010s albums more. I will increase the number of 2010s albums throughout the decade. By 2019, I will have 8. I have three reasons for doing this. First, 2010s is a decade just like the 60s and 70s and it should be represented. Second, by including 2010s albums in my chart they get into the overall database which gives you and others a chance to give some current albums (possible future greats) a score of your own. Three, if everyone included a few 2010s albums in their charts this site would become more interesting to me.
Greenday, maybe you are still young and can't understand that some people have heard a lot of albums and have eclectic taste. I have been collecting music for more than 40 years and have listened to thousands of albums. That doesn't mean that I have good taste in music or that I know any more than the next guy. I listen to every album that I rate in its entirety at least once and again some. There are lots of albums I don't like, don't listen to and therefore don't rate. I own and enjoy every album listed in my Top 50 chart.
Great chart Freddie and good idea with what you have done. I am going to limited myself to one album per artist. Might make something more interesting to look at.
