Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).

It takes a lot of nerve to have all these classics, yet not one Beatles album. I like and dislike that about your chart. Not enough modern albums for my taste, but at least you're honest. And if you're gonna like only a couple post-2000 bands, at least The White Stripes is one of them.

Can't deny that you've picked some classics there. Maybe a few newer albums wouldn't go a miss but great list.
