Top 10 Greatest Music Albums
by Michael S. Hansen Unknown

Yes, I know, it's all mainstream! How boring... but I think credit should go where credit is due! So I apologise to Radiohead, The Stone Roses, that german Pink Floyd clone Klauz-something, Marvin Gaye and all the other's that didn't make this list... not that they should care :-)

As for Help as no. 1 - it's just packed with the most fantastic 2:30 minute songs ever written, let me refresh your memory:

"Help!" - abso-bloody-lutely rockin' - the whole world knows what's coming when they strike that first chord!
"The Night Before" - great hit...
"You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" - John doing Bob Dylan, and he's better at it than mr. Zimmerman!
"I Need You" - No, You need to get this album!
"Another Girl" - They just keep 'em coming!
"You're Going to Lose That Girl" - Not amazing lyrics, hehe, but the tunes are fantastic...
"Ticket to Ride" - Ringo at his best...
"Act Naturally" - Every rose has it's thorns :-)
"It's Only Love" - Well, that's how I feel about "Help!"
"You Like Me Too Much" - It's a great, happy album free of suicide wishes and self-destruction!
"Tell Me What You See" - Even the greatest album has a filler!
"I've Just Seen a Face" - Or two!
"Yesterday" - Yes, here we find the world's most recorded song - right here on "Help!"
"Dizzy Miss Lizzy" - Rock'n'Roll, baby!

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 65.9/100, a mean average of 54.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 54.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 30.0.

Sorry! You just don't call Klaus Schulze a Pink Floyd clone, put Help! as first place and put The Wall and not Wish You Were Here. I dig the bands in the chart, but I think you got the weakest albums from each.

Im giving you four stars ...cuz you need to add 40 more. Otherwise...you have 10 great Albums on this list...who can argue that but some elitist who would leave The Godfather and Gone With the Wind off the Greatest Movie list in favor of some obscure Japanese or French flick.

It's like you just nick-picked a bunch of albums from one decade and decided to say screw 80s 90s and 2000s. I mean yeah I know MY chart is MOSTLY 90s and 2000s but STILL at least I considered other decades, even if it only was a little.

I just wanted to rectify a few things regarding the Beatles that AfterHours mentioned (you know, the usual rubbish about their not inventing anything, just a commercial phenomenon, blah blah...).
Well,I'm almost sorry to report they didn't invent or pioneer anything except:
backwards sounds in music,ADT (that's artificial double-tracking),the use of the recording studio as an instrument (I can expend on that at will),lyrics printed on the record sleeve, the concept-album,songs that segue straight into the next without pause, the notorious and now cliché "hidden track",indian sitar in pop/folk song (huge door being open in the process),...time is running out and my mind is still full of Beatles'inventions and/or discoveries (such as the then-new format acoustic folk guitar/string quartet or the use of the bass guitar as a melodic instrument).Plus all their visual innovations and-true- marketing strategies...
Apart from that of course, they didn't bring anything new:)
