Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 6% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 88.5/100, a mean average of 87.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.1/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.0.

Cool chart - nice spread across national boundaries, genres & decades.
Really like that you have put Tim Buckley & Jeff Buckley next to each other at #22 & #23.
We only have 3 albums in common, including Jeff Buckley's 'Grace' & Tim Buckley's 'Hello & Goodbye.
Like that you have 3 Australian albums in your chart too.

A reasonably good chart, with a lot of diversity and quite a number of surprising choices. The Band of Holy Joy, the Dodos and the Triffids in their different ways are all artists I rarely recall seeing in these pages. I have wanted to check out the Dodos for some time but have been busy doing other things for years now. Even some more familiar choices like Spiritualized/Spacemen 3, Arto Lindsay, Glenn Branca, Rhys Chatham, The Waterboys, Einstürzende Neubauten, and Jackson C. Frank are almost refreshing merely because they are not all over these pages.

There are some familiar choices which I do not enjoy seeing in the White Stripes and Coldplay, but this is another blemish.

Some albums I might recommend to you:

— Laura Nyro – any of ‘Eli and the Thirteenth Confession’, ‘New York Tendaberry’ or ‘Christmas and the Beads of Sweat’
— Band of Susans – any of ‘Love Agenda’, ‘The Words and the Flesh’ or ‘Veil’
— The Tahitian Choir – either volume
— The Moon Seven Times – ‘The Moon Seven Times’ (listening to it as I write this and highly impressed
— Lamb – ‘Lamb’

Great job! Adventure is wonderful and is often unjustly left out of these best ever lists. Glad to see it in the top 10.

Fantastic chart. I found out about Scott Johnson today, and found this excellent chart via him.
