So there are lots of great singer-songwriters out there who make great music, but their lyrics rarely work on paper as poetry. Here's a list of the excellent song-smiths whose lyrics work well on the printed page, whose lyrics least require the scaffolding of music to maintain their power.
I'm choosing the album that best represents their poetic talents, not necessarily their best album over-all.
No Bob Dylan or Jim Morrison. Sorry Guys.
