Top 100 Greatest Music Albums ratings

Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 5% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.8/100, a mean average of 87.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 88.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 12.7.

Solid album chart. These are some classics I would select to my list but my chart is different. You like NIN but you also like Radiohead. And good for me you have the Beatles here. So I give you a good Rating.
As everyone has already told you: solid selection of albums. About the classic obvious choices: I agree with them. And lets say thanks for Plastikman, never have heard of him before. It was a great surprise.
Good to see Juju by Siouxsie & The Banshees.
A lot of my favourites in there.
I appreciate the minimalist picks of Reich and Glass but the top 7 all being variations of Floyd/Radiohead/Beatles? It's a lot.
ps your 91-100 is really great
good stuff. you should check out:
Steven Wilson - Hand Cannot Erase (great prog rock, halfway between pink floyd and yes imo)
Faust - Faust IV (good krautrock)
Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime (math rock)
Unwound - Leaves Turn Inside You (math rock / post-punk)
No bad albums.
So this is why I like your commentary. Great list.
my favorite from the common artists
10 artists in common:
The Beatles- The White Album
Radiohead- In Rainbows
David Bowie- Station to Station
The Velvet Underground- Loaded
Pink Floyd- Animals
Led Zeppelin- Presence
Brian Eno- Another Green World
Yes- Close to the Edge
King Crimson- Starless & Bible Black
The Jimi Hendrix Experience- Electric Ladyland
great chart! we have very similar picks
If you're looking for mellowest NIN album, then the Still EP or Ghosts I-IV is the way to go.
The Still EP features stripped down nearly acoustic versions of earlier songs, instrumental tracks and a previously unreleased song. Not a major release, but is actually pretty great.
Ghosts I-IV is super mellow, but in a very different way. It's a completely instrumental ambient album. It's closer to his soundtrack work than any of his other albums. I like the album personally, but it doesn't really sound like a NIN album. If you like it then check out his soundtrack work.
As for his later work, With Teeth is more rock-centric and has no overarching concept, Year Zero has a more digitized sound and describes a dystopian far-right fascist future America, The Slip isn't very good, and Hesitation Mark is more focused on rhythmic electronic grooves. Up to you which direction to go.
As to TMR, I liked it more on this listen. Not going to say I "get it", but I'm starting to appreciate elements of it.
