Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 3% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.5/100, a mean average of 89.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 89.6/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 10.6.

The mid-covid Nick Cave livestream event felt like such a scam as it was happening. For some reason I got in my head that it was going to be a "live" livestream; but it was still pretty good anyway and ended up sounding very similar to one of his live shows I saw before the lockdowns. Not sure why I felt compelled to comment that here, but I think it communicates something of an appreciation for your choices?
Glad to see Dirty Three get some love. Its a sin to not have the studio recording of Vespertine in favor of the live version though :O
wow. So many awesome picks. Love the taste between the jazz, noise rock and folk deep cuts. That GSH and Brian Jackson record is just the best
I like some of your favorites; others I'm not familiar w/ yet. Good reason for me to keep expanding my music paradigms. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
insightful take re: live fado, and it's funny you should make the point also because one of the best shows I've ever been to was Mariza in San Francisco (in like 2015 I wanna say? idk covid has ruined my ability to make sense of time). but yeah while I plenty enjoy Mariza's albums none of them have ever hit the height of that concert for me. I think you're onto something, the genre it really does make so much more sense live. man to have seen Amalia back then...
i feel being adverse to detailed reviews (I've been urged to add to my chart some version of the more cohesive writeups that I had once upon a time but as time goes on I feel less and less sure of how to even go about that) but for what it's worth I think the poetry approach is kind of inspired, first go or not I feel like I get a sense of what to expect from the stuff I haven't heard or get an idea of how your experience with an album might be different from mine. also it's just fun to read.
really hope you enjoy the Lancelot Layne comp (and/or anything else you feel like checking out). and yea I feel like it's only a matter of time before The Cake blow up in music nerd land haha. I go back and forth between their self-titled and this one but both are essentially perfect in my mind. on my old chart I just cheated and had that compilation that contains both albums hahaha
oh and forgot to mention it's cool not only seeing Amalia on here but specifically Amalia À L'Olympia, always felt that it was far and away the best thing she's ever done but I don't usually see it praised nearly as much as her (also excellent) studio stuff
is the poetry yours Hayden? Because that's an approach to personalizing one's chart I've yet to see and I fucking love it. best part of an already really cool selection of albums, feel like you captured the vibes pretty much perfectly
At some point, I want to go through this list. Also want to point out, wasn't the descriptor for #100 for Fka Twigs LP1? Don't how it fits for Metaphorical Music.
Fantastic, diverse chart!
Any greatest albums chart that's less than 50% USA grabs my attention, and is automatically bookmarked for further research. Kudos.
