The most emotional album I have ever listened to. Win Butlers haunting vocal cascades over the orchestration perfectly, pulling you in and making you listen to every word he bellows out. An album that sums up death with all its tradegy, beauty and power. Terrifc stuff! [First added to this chart: 03/23/2012]

This album currently takes the top spot on the overall chart on this site - and rightfully so. This album is mind-bogglingly good. Radiohead went experimental and made some of the deepest, most beautiful songs ever written. Unusual, surprising and always amazing. [First added to this chart: 03/23/2012]

There will be those who complain at the Beatles making it so high on my list, whining that the beatles are the obvious, boring choice. Those people are wrong. More than fifty years since thier hayday, this album continues to be meaningful and brilliant. It also contains some of the best songs ever written. ("elenor Rigby", "And you bird can sing", "paperback writer" and "taxman" to name just a few) [First added to this chart: 03/23/2012]

We've all heard the common complaint that literally anyone can pick up a guitar and play any song on this album BUT no one can play it quite the way Nirvana can. Their simplicity is what makes this album so brilliant. A guitar, bass guitar, a drum kit and Kurt's superb vocal are all that this album needs to become one the coolest, most rocking albums ever. This has to be the catchiest album of all time. Just look at any alt rock band now and if you asked them what influenced thier music, i can guarantee you that this album is going to be pretty high up on that list. On the surface, it just looks like a catchy rock record with some bangin tunes on it. but looks can be decieving. Brilliant. [First added to this chart: 03/23/2012]

With Elephant, The White Stripes reached the masses and made Blues infused Garage rock meaningful again. Everything from Jack's all out bombastic solos to Meg's hard hitting minimalist drum style to the funny, touching lyrics make this album pure rock bliss. Oh and "seven Nation Army" has to have one of the best riffs ever. *DUN, DUN DUN DUN DUN DOOOOON DOOOOON* [First added to this chart: 03/23/2012]

Listen to this and tell me it doesn't bring a smile to your face. Even today, this album had such a frech, exiting feel to it that just hasnt been replecated since. That should be reason enough to place this classic album at #10. [First added to this chart: 03/23/2012]

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 86.4/100, a mean average of 86.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 86.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 5.5.

Good list! I don't agree with your White Stripes picks. You picked Elephant and De Stijl. What about White Blood Cells? I think White Blood Cells is where the White Stripes songwriting peaked. I like De Stijl but honestly I think that Elephant is kind of weak. Also I don't like The Dark Side of the Moon in the top ten. I think that album is way overrated. But other than those three albums I really like your picks, especially Kanye West My Dark Twisted Fantasy. That album is brilliant.
