Contrary to most of my other charts on genres in popular music, baroque pop is rather a subgenre that extends across genres. Hence the definition of it is more subtle and complex, and therefore this was the most difficult chart for me to make. Originally a subgenre of rock 'n' roll, it can be a subgenre of any genre in popular music (in my opinion?).
Baroque pop is defined as popular music that includes acoustic (sounding) instruments that are used in a classical style. Classical here includes all periods of clasiscal music: baroque, classical, romantic, modern.
Inclusion implies:
- This album includes acoustic instruments or synths that mimic acoustic instruments or samples of classical instruments playing a prominent role in the orchestration in most of the tracks, playing in a style that resembles classical music.
- Most tracks on this album are in the genre of popular music - this includes rock 'n' roll, but also hip hop, electronic music, etc.
It does not include albums on which most tracks include acoustic instruments playing in a style that resembles folk music (which is folk rock/folktronica/etc.) or include acoustic instruments playing in a style that resembles jazz (which is jazz fusion).
