They knew they were breaking up anyway so they went for broke on every song. It breaks your heart, after you fall in love. Sublime pop music with no pretensions and no compromise. Colin Blunstone's voice is the lost treasure of 60's pop. Not one song on here comes close to being a dud.

The ultimate psychedelic guitar pop album. This is really where it all began. Quite possibly the most influential rock album of all time. The greatest band at their peak. "Tomorrow never knows" is 30 years ahead of its time.

Their most experimental work and their most exciting. Contains some wrong turns but it is the most comprehensive adventure in genre hopping songwriting ever.

So subversive, so influential. "Venus in Furs" is utterly alien to any song before it. "Heroin" is a drug song where the music attempts to convey the rush of the drug coming on. The song sequencing is perfect, it flows through day and night like a stream to a river to the sea.

A genius at his peak. Playing every instrument, this is his personal statement of how he experiences the world. The melodies are a sweet confluence of gospel and pop, the rythyms are funky and his singing is to die for.

Like dropping in on the craziest funniest jam session ever. The music sounds like they are making it up as they go but the lyrics are what makes this album great. Philosophical and street wise, absurd but poignant, sobering yet side splittingly drunk. The truth pours from this man like a dying father to a son.

Changed the way albums were produced from a couple of hits and filler (which the Beachboys had done as much as anyone) to thematic works of art. Points off for being played mostly by session musos, although for a calculated epic production (a la Citizen Kane) it has surprising depth and warmth.

A dark, drugged yet hilarious funk masterpiece. No one bridged 'white' and 'black' music like Sly. From smokey jazz interludes to country yodelling there is audaciousness everywhere. Throughout, the funk pulse and Sly's outrageous singing build on James Brown's legacy and take it to another level. Few albums capture complete free-spirited, drug addled fun quite like this one.

Yes "Ok Computer" still blows people away today and contains their best song "Paranoid Android" but this is the album that blew "Ok Computer" away. Radiohead invented a new type of music containing many influences but sounding like no other band ever had. Can only really be listened to from start to finish such is its cohesiveness leaving you in a blissful spell.

Although "Music from the Big Pink' was more influential this is their best album. Their playing is so intuitive and emotional and so wonderfully organic it sounds like their in the room wih you. The songs are timeless artifects delving into American history in both subject matter and sound.

My man, solid list! It was interesting to see the few from the 00's peeking out from above all the masterpieces of the ages. Have always been a huge Zombies fan. I got my lil' brother into them a few years back and--for about a year--he walked around touting them as his favourite band. Anyway, good list.

Very classical chart.
Hard to argue with most of these.
