There is not a single song on which The Beatles were this loose, this Southern, or in a word, this black. This album is like a set that you might expect to hear at a dirty, sweaty, non-air conditioned blues bar on the south side of Chicago at 4 AM on a hot summer night. This album is where The Beatles' heads collectively exploded. You can hear influence from The Who and Hendrix. Standout tracks, in order, are: While My Guitar, Revolution 1, Helter Skelter, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Blackbird, Yer Blues, Julia, Honey Pie, Mother Nature's Son, Back in the U.S.S.R.

Revolution 9 and Good Night are scroll-worthy. One wishes that Hey Jude and other songs recorded during this period had been used instead.

A master performance of blue-eyed soul, with an amazing line-up of special guests including John Lee Hooker. Lots of medleys which the band goes through so quickly, the casual listener will miss some songs. [First added to this chart: 09/13/2012]
