Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by KinkyAfro

I wouldnt call this chart "best ever albums" as the site suggests, but this is quite simply my favourite albums. My chart has been put together based purely on what I enjoy listening to, no points for influence on other artists or importance at its time of release. It may be heavy with certain artists and genres, but they happen to be my favourite ones, I don't go for the one album per artist thing as I don't believe that gives an accurate account of your genuine favourites. The only rule I had was no greatest hits/best of, b-side collections or compilation albums.

I've put my favourite 3 tracks off each album on so if anyone hasn't heard anything on this chart they can listen to a taster of the album on youtube.

In the process of listening to all these again so positions will change.

Can't believe this album is ranked so low on this site and can only assume that people haven't heard it. Most people associate The Charlatans with the song The Only One I Know but the music on this is a big departure from their earlier sound. A much darker sounding album than their previous releases. I didnt know what to make of it when I first heard it, I was expecting Tellin' Stories part 2 so was a bit surprised, and a little dissapointed if im honest. After a few listens though it just blew me away with how great it was. Does not get the recognition that it deserves as it is a masterpiece and stands up against any of the so called classics. Favourite tracks, The Blind Stagger, Impossible, Forever. [First added to this chart: 02/01/2013]

Just a fantastic flowing album, needs to be listened to as a whole to really appreciate it. Didn't get it at first, bought it after listening his best of volume 1 and it was so different to what I was expecting and just wrote it off as not very good. Tried it again about 6 months later, and remember the moment well when it clicked. Was the day after the night out when i met who would later become my wife, i had a shocking hangover and just sat with it on repeat for the rest of the evening. Whenever I put it on I just get swept away by it. Favourite tracks, The Way Young Lovers Do, Astral Weeks, Cyprus Avenue. [First added to this chart: 02/01/2013]

A lot of hate on this site for Oasis which i can understand, I personally can't stand Liam Gallagher, the bloke is a bit of a minge. However, this album came out the day I started college and it just changed everything within the Uk music scene and opened doors for other bands who wouldn't usually get airtime to get heard. This was Oasis at their best and they never repeated anything like this again. This album had songs that clicked with a generation that were still waiting for the Stone Roses to return and for me personally it came just at the right time. Favourite tracks, Live Forever, Columbia, Rock n Roll Star. [First added to this chart: 02/01/2013]

Just shaves it as my favourite Rory album over Duece on the basis that there isn't a poor track on it, just blues based rock at its finest, and some unreal guitar playing on it that comes as standard with all his albums. For me the greatest guitar player that has ever lived who left us far too soon, and how he isnt universally acclaimed along with the likes of Clapton and Hendrix (who cited him as the best guitarist in the world)is a mystery. What is it about bands from Manchester making amazing debut albums? The 3rd in my top 10! Just a great album from start to finish packed with top quality songs. Takes me back to the year i started high school, the 6th formers would be playing this in the yard while us 'young uns' played football. Wasnt till a couple of years later that i got into them when i started buying albums but i still remember this blasting out every break time. Such a shame about all the legal wrangles with their label that followed which resulted in them losing their momentum and dissapearing for 5 years. Saw them live again last year though and they haven't lost it! Just hope some new material comes out soon. Best tracks, I am the Resurrection, She Bangs the Drums, Waterfall. A very high place in my chart for a new album but this album really is that good. 8 years since his last album and i thought we'd seen the last of Damien Rice. This came out of the blue and it was well worth the wait. O was good, 9 had some high points but didnt do it for me as an album, but this is mind blowing, far better than his debut and my album of the decade so far. Everytime I listen to it I love it more, its just beautiful and a work of genius. Sounds even better when listened to through headphones and you hear every little detail that has been put into every song. Just amazing production. I just hope we dont have to wait another 8 years till his next album, but if its as good as this, i can live with that. An album that for me has got better over time. Saw him live when this was released but didnt get the album until quite a few years later. A wonderful singer/songwriter armed with an acoustic guitar who seems to have just vanished. A good album to put on when youve had a bad day at work and just want to to relax, a favourite of mine while cooking the kids tea while they are all hyper and fighting with each other! His strongest Solo album, a masterpiece, and in my opinion better than his work with the Smiths. Great lyrics and tunes and not a weak track on it. This is the high point of his career. Great mixture of songs on this with epic guitar based stadium singalongs, great acoustic slower songs as well as ones you can dance to reminiscant of the Madchester era of the Roses and Mondays (something they didn't comletely discard from their previous incarnation as Sub Sub) This albums a must for any fan of that style of music. This album brought Radiohead back in from the wilderness for me. Lost them after OK computer as Kid A/Amnesiac wernt to my tastes and didn't even bother with hail to the thief. This is just an album of beauty and I never get bored of it. Shame last flowers to the hospital was only put on the bonus disc as its one of the best tracks they have ever recorded. Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 85.4/100, a mean average of 85.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 85.3/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.6.

I really love this chart and the comments even if I don't agee with all the albums on it: maybe a bit too biased on britpop: but anyhow I am tempted to check out a lot of your favorites especially the Rory gallagher ones; l checked out the Irish Tour album and I really lovend it as well. Apart from the shredding guitar plating I think it is the Ray Manzanerek like organisatie that delivers the icing on the already fantastisch cake.
I also especially liked your funny comments on Metallica and am glad you appreciate them
