Other comments have noted similarities to Pink Floyd and Tame Impala, but I think there is influence from The Weeknd and Kid Cudi here too. Even though his sound has been elevated with these new sonic pallets, he still sounds like the same artist who released the Lil Boat mixtape back in 2016, which was a project that I liked and thought was good. Don't miss this one. Recommended for fans of hip-hop, modern R&B, and psychedelic pop. "[+]Reply

Bon Iver (SF - USA - Apr 25) - Sable, Fable

A bit glitchy at times, it’s still probably my favourite of Justin Vernon’s output, other than perhaps 2011s ‘Bon Iver, Bon Iver’. Could imagine drifting along the fast lane of the autobahn, thinking of spent sun tan lotion and oregano-flecked feta, whilst a 4-mile tailback of angry Alpina drivers are flicking v’s with reckless, bodykit-fuelled abandon. Expansionist, but not in an invade Greenland sort of way. The skies may never close but, when Michael Laudrup’s hair bounces in the wind, top down and product free, there is little as soothing in 2025. No one dares undertake.

"A real interesting switch up in mood and sound from last year’s ‘Laurel Hell’ and dare I say it punches just as much as an overall piece of work…"Reply

This is a sort and sweet, 33 minute and 7 track singer/songwriter album. The lyrics are pretty and beautifully specific, ruminative and consistently gorgeous.
The arrangements are understated and filled with just the right sounds to flesh-out the emotion and vibe of the songs. There are elements of chamber folk/pop, some art pop, lots of more general contemporary folk, and all these beautiful touches are nicely worked in and the whole album is quite beautiful and unified.
By the end of the album I felt slightly more refreshed, slightly more whole and slightly more enriched. Its just a really gorgeous album. Don't have much else to say. Maybe once I've returned a few times to this my thoughts will be a bit more full and abundant. For now after 2 listens its just one of my fave albums of the year thus far. Really solid."[+]Reply

It's steeped in aesthetic suggestion of something dark, something sinister, something lying beneath the surface under the white lace. Alas and alack if there's in fact some deeper truth or horror or horror-truth hidden under there, Cain hasn't the faintest idea what it is. Strangers has a nice build and payoff, but almost everything else on the album is just cringe overproduced sanitised radio-pop. That is except for the triptych of songs beginning with Ptolemaea. Those three suggest something *is* actually happening deeper within this album at a narrative/thematic level. However, once you emerge from the piano instrumental Televangelism – waiting for something to hit – you just get Sun Bleached Flies, which is a garbage song that just pretends you went on some odd detour off the road and into the dark forest – "but don't worry, you're back on the 5 lane mega-freeway and the FM radio is crisp again, let's forget what just happened!" In reality the "weird songs" were just placed where they are because that's where you put the "weird songs" in an album nowadays. It's the pop formula tolerating a bit of contained experimentation, because the thought of that sells now. I hated American Teenager."[+]Reply
"I knew this album was going to be good after the singles were certified modern rock classics. What I wasn't expecting was the extremely intimate, and moving closing moments."Reply

Some songs initially sound like aimless wailing and take time to reveal their melodies, but when they do they're absolutely gorgeous. Indeed the whole album is transcendent. The person who described it as sounding like Coldplay, possibly because Moses sings in a high register, needs to get his ears checked. Just ridiculous."[+]Reply

It starts off well with the fantastic “Brambleton” but the strong start does not continue. While Daytona is heavy sample based like this album; the choice of samples on Daytona create a more cohesive, compact and fulfilled sound. The beats sound fairly thin and rely on one loop samples a lot throughout this album. However, it does works well on “Dreamin Of The Past” “Scrape It Off” and “Rock N Roll” due to fantastic samples and great contributions from features. In the end, the production and Pusha do both conclude in great form as the last 4 tracks are very good, but it is too inconsistent to be put up there with Pushas best work. "[+]Reply

Every song radiates this positivity in its instrumentation making it lovable and feel personal even if it is just your first time hearing it. Musically, it is also rich with quality as the group utilise such a diverse array of instrumentation which keeps the style of the record fresh throughout and maintains our interest and intrigue as we enjoy the display they put on for us. The vocal is sensational as well and deserves a lot of praise for how brilliant it is on this project. Overall, this is an elite album that will not only make you feel happy whenever you experience it but it will also back this up with a lot of quality. "[+]Reply
