"the polar opposite of trout mask.. only 4 or 5 notes in the piece, could be construed as simplistic, but it has such a hypnotic effect.. and each time a new bit of instrumentation comes in.. ahhhh.... fuck, i'm getting weirder by the day."  Reply

"The first two songs are the best by far here. 'Fear is a Man's Best Friend' is like a ship going down in the sea of misery and everyone just likes to sing along. Most artists thesedays who would have wrote a song with that title would have made it a plodding acoustic guitar whimper piece. Here it..."  [+]  Reply

"Even if the classic song ratio is slightly lower than on the eponymous debut of 1978, "Van Halen II" (1979) is just as much fun - if not more - and to the band's credit, there's not a bad song on the album. The garage rock of "Van Halen" (1978) showcased surprising diversity - from a cappella, ba..."  [+]  Reply

"Peter Hammill is another unrecognised English musical genius. Perhaps the first to recognise that the voice is another instrument to experiment with. Still Life just resonates with pain, wonder, melancholy and hope. No weak songs, but the title track and Childhood's end are masterpieces."  Reply

"If you want to hear a completely different sound that will blow your mind, give this album a try. Haunting harmonies that sound like the echo from distant centuries. Start with Polegnala e Todora (Love Song)"  Reply

"Saw them live at Massey Hall in 1974 and it was scary great. This album is a pale imitation of the real thing but it's all we have. Imagine what Hawkwind could have done if they had Radiohead's 21st century technology! :D"  Reply

"I really like how minimalistic and raw this feels, paired with the screeching, dissonant VU-esque violins in here every so often, it really has this really great quirky vibe to it. I can imagine just a bunch of friends jamming in a garage and thinking "fuck it, let's get it recorded". Also it's p..."  [+]  Reply

"One of the few live albums that really captures everything great about its band, recorded during the undeniable peak of the Stones’ career (before the world came crashing around them at Altamont, just over a week after this album’s concerts were performed). This, Let it Bleed, and The Singles Col..."  [+]  Reply
