Top 100 Greatest Music Albums by ledemoncleaner

I usually try to think I have rather eclectic taste (compared to many people I know who rarely dabble out of their comfort zones of music). It seems not too long ago that'd I'd bash genres that aren't classic rock, but as I matured my taste, I feel, matured. I'm not the most eclectic guy on the earth, but I'd argue I'm better than most the crowd. Alas, enough rambling. Here are some of my FAVORITE (not best) albums.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: I'm limiting myself to 1 album per artist (there'd be a lot of Radiohead, Massive Attack, Pink Floyd, Beck, Beatles, and Queens of the Stone Age if that were the case). I feel like I'd show of my musical taste better this way.

UPDATE: Hey, checking in around 6/7/17. I feel like my taste has changed enough for a bit of a make over of this list. I still enjoy the majority of my 2016 list, but there's a few new favorites that I feel like I need to include on this list. Peace and thanks for all of the positive feedback over the past few years.

Update 04/2018: Thanks for the chart of the day. I use RYM now folks so here's my profile and new album list: https://rateyourmusic.com/~thedemoncleaner and https://rateyourmusic.com/list/thedemoncleaner/my-135-favorite-albums-in-no-real-order/

Unknown Pleasures is depressing, but it's still catchy enough to sing-along and dance. Closer is absolute fucking misery. The entire album emotionally draining to listen to, but that's what makes it so intriguing. Each song is it's own story with an unhappy ending.

If anyone I knew IRL were to know I'd like this album, they'd think I'm a murderer. In all seriousness, Slint were ages ahead of their time. Post-rock, math-rock, post-hardcore, or whatever you want to call it. So many indie artists have this album to thank for their success (and its even more amazing considering how young these guys were when this was released). Most of the album itself is great, but what pushes it into favorites territory for me is Don, aman and the closer Good Morning Captain: a droning seven minute epic about a sailor facing his last regrets in the face of death.

The Glow Pt. 2 is an absolute masterpiece from beginning to end. It's well over an hour long but each song on it is interesting and rife with pacific northwest nostalgia and charm. I've listened to this album way more than I'd like to admit. Phil Elverum lives up to his name as a lo-fi hero.

Like getting your the diary of your mind getting poured out in front of your crush, Pinkerton is embarrassing. That adds to its charm. Blue Album is good, but a bit too cheery. This album is just pure, raw emotion (WITH GREAT HOOKS).

Honestly, I can't think of an album that's anymore ahead of it's time like this. It isn't the best in sound quality, but it makes up for that fact in sheer creativity.

Absolutely stunning. The soul, jazz, and avant-garde influences are all emotionally mature and sonically stunning. Every song just pops and sounds crisp and gorgeous to the ears. When someone says "modern rap sucks", just show them this masterfully written and produced work of art.

If the Pixies and Pavement had a baby and went batshit insane that would be Lonesome Crowded West. Modest Mouse's first three albums (and EPs/Comps in between) are all absolute masterpieces but LCW has less fat than This is a Long Drive and more grit than Moon and Antarctica, leading it to probably be my favorite by the group.

Absolutely hauntingly beautiful listen. Boards Of Canada are the greatest electronic group of all time and Geogaddi is their masterpiece. There's an undeniable evil to the record as its full of themes of occult, satanist, and brain-washing, but that's what makes Geogaddi so different and so interesting.

Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart is rated in the top 1% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 91.7/100, a mean average of 92.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 6.3.

Granted, I don't spend that much time around here, but this is one of the best charts I've seen. Love the hip hop albums, and I really appreciate the comments. I love seeing why people love the same albums as me but for slightly (or drastically) different reasons.

John Lennon is the best solo Beatles album (and this is coming from a huge McCartney fan) and, although I always try and find another favorite Zappa album, I keep coming back to Apstrophe.
Remember "don't eat the yellow snow!"
Great to see these on another chart

Good chart. 24 albums in common. This deserves 100. Great taste in music, good interesting notes, some really good albums. I( don't adhere to the 1 album per artist rule myself but the good thing is through it you present a broad range of artists). You are clearly enthusiastic about your music. Great chart of the day.
