"The best album by a woefully underrated band. They were always written off for being a little hokey and safe, but this is an amazingly consistent album, full of big hooks and absolutely stellar guitar tones. Every track works."  Reply

"Oh my goodness, this album is amazing. It sounds so detached and distant, like floating on the edge of the universe. Yet there is something so beautiful and haunting about how mysterious and indifferent it feels to hear it. Appropriately titled "The Absent Universe". One of the greatest albums ev..."  [+]  Reply

"Julia Holter's had quite a strange career. After slowly working towards a more accessible sound and building mainstream critical approval, culminating in 2015's Have You In My Wilderness, she followed this up with the sprawling and uncompromising (and also totally brilliant) Aviary 3 years later...."  [+]  Reply

"My first JSBE album. I bought it on a whim, thinking they were a blues band. What a silly lad I was. This album blew me away. Dirty, dirty, dirty rock and roll. So much swagger, so much attitude, so much power from a three-piece. Front to back, this album smokes."  Reply
