Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.9/100, a mean average of 71.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.7/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.9.

Sleigh Bells really are an acquired taste, something akin to enjoying Anchovies and (hot take) I don’t like Anchovies
However such an awesome album cover with that cheeky smile

(That Sleigh Bells sound - that hyperactive, louder than shit, noisy pop - is still here and they still have it. While I like this, and find it fun in the right circumstances, this time around I can't say I was a big fan.)
This is an album that is probably better than my reaction to it indicates. I have to be in a specific mood to listen to hyper pop or noise pop or this type of very loud and mostly unsubtle pop. This mood doesn't come around often and I wasn't in it today. But despite my mood, I can say this is solid stuff. There be cool hooks and melodies here and there is something distinctively transgressive and punk rock about how this music sounds. That transgressive, aggressive, covertly vicious attitude is what I like the most about Sleigh Bells famous debut album. I haven't come back to their music since that album dropped and any time I've wanted to listen to them I always just put on Treats. And I am happy that they still a certain edge. Its not COMPLETELY 100% the same level of badass as theyre music from 2009 and 2010 or whatever, but its more present than maybe I was expecting.
The sugary sweet vocals on this thing are a bit annoying to me. They sound like the most generic of modern pop vocal deliveries, and outside of those songs that have a really fun melody they are the weakness of the music.
The tracks are sometimes great, especially love when they lean in almost blissfully with these absurd guitar riffs. I love them usually for about 1 minute, after a short while sometimes these loud as hell riffs start grating.
Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of this. I think at best, when I'm next in the mood for Sleigh Bells' sound, this will be a solid album. If you like this sort of stuff, have at it. Not really for me at this time.
Edit: Kinda dig Hummingbird Bomb, gotta say. Not sure why, as this closing track has all the traits I just said I'm not feeling, but yeah its really good.
