Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 68.9/100, a mean average of 67.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 68.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.3.

Not bad. Nothing outstanding either.

It's kind of a bore.

The last two songs save this from being a boring mess.

They've been doing "The National sound" since before The National was a band. Just a bit more of a focus on the chamber pop elements than the post-punk revival elements as compared to early National.

Anyhow, this album is pretty different from their early stuff in that it's just far more lush, and I can see why some would prefer the more intimate feeling on their debut, but for me this is absolutely incredible.

One of those albums you know is good, but didn't quite listen to in the right setting or time. Very artistic and melodic in some senses, but other times it falls flat, losing my interest. Reminds me of Swans' album "The Seer". Worth listening to once . . . and only once.

Favorite Tracks: How He Entered, Follow Me and Like Only Lovers Can.

I'm not a really familiar with the previous stuff released by Tindersticks. However, this album is fair to good and some songs are unfortunately a bad attempt to reproduce The National sound.

In addition, some ''melodic'' song are awkwardly offbeat.

Fear Of Emptiness is the only great song of this album.
