Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist is rated in the top 2% of all artists on BestEverAlbums.com. This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 81.7/100, a mean average of 80.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 82.2/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 16.5.

I have just discovered PJ Harvey through a hifi review with Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea on LP, I was recommended Let England Shake by a friend. Both albums are excellent, she has a beautiful voice, writes great songs and presents them beautifully, I great find even if a bit late for me. Highly recommended!
I discovered PJ Harvey in the mid-nineties and have loved her music ever since. Seen her twice in concert. She is still relatively unknown and a lot of people are missing out on a great artist.
Not my first choice of musical style, but she is gritty and real, which I appreciate enough to elevate the music itself.
Is this woman even capable of writing a bad song?
It took me a while to come around to female angst. When Dry came out I was searching for a Kurt or a Thom express a masculine angst. Because of this I missed the effect of her raw early releases. Naturally, Stories From the City was the revelatory album for me to take a bit of a closer look at PJ. I have learnt to appreciate Dry and Rid of Me but they don't resonate with me me like they would if they'd been a soundtrack to my own youthful angst. Instead, I have gravitated more toward albums like White Chalk that are less revered by the Polly Jean diehards. She also became my badass rock chick crush with her opaque, mysterious persona, and a willingness to explore the challenging themes permeating life experience.
It's some great stuff mate!
One of the best. She changes her direction and masters it like nobody else. Nothing sounds the same. Even some of the best can get repetitive but never Harvey. Rid of Me & Stories from the City are the two standouts but everything is great from her.
For the past couple decades PJ Harvey has been ultimate example of what female musicians are capable of. From Dry to Let England Shake, she has shown a wide range. She can be dark, gritty, angry, but just as easily she can produce work that is delicate and beautiful. She is not just one of the greatest female musicians, but simply one of the greatest musicians who's ever lived.
A true female rock hero. Got the attitude, great lyricist and some darn fine tunes to boot. Let England Shake is a fine work. Still think there is more to come from her.
One of my favorite singers. She can completely transform her voice from one album to the next. My favorites are "To Bring You My Love" and "Is This Desire?."
...I'm not that big on "Stories" either.
