Best Tracks:

Glam Racket
Paranoia Man In Cheap Shit Room
League Of Bald Headed Men
Service
It's A Curse
A Past Gone Mad
Ladybird
Lost In Music

Together with The Marshall Suite, this was a high point of the Fall in the 90's. Glam Racket, The League Of Bald Headed Men and Paranoia Man In Cheap Shit Room still sound great.

Bill Is Dead

Telephone Thing
Hilary
I'm Frank
Chicago Now
The Littlest Rebel

Another one which is quite highly rated and yet it has never really jumped out at me like a lot of the other albums. I am a fan of Bill Is Dead with MES actually singing and I think it is one of their best tracks of the 90's. Telephone Thing is ok, it doesn't really go anywhere but it is slightly different for the Fall but a lot of the tracks here do seem a little murky and unremarkable.

Levitate
Hurricane Edward
Masquerade
Ten Houses Of Eve
Ol' Gang
I'm A Mummy
4.5 Inch
Spencer Must Die

Quite a frustrating album, it does have glimpses of brilliance, I love the title track and Hurricane Edward, I'm A Mummy is one of the best covers of the 90's, Masquerade is a good single and Ten Houses Of Eve sounds pretty much different to anything else they have done, so does 4 1/2 Inch come to think of it but it also a few throwaways. This album has probably grown on me more than most though.

Touch Sensitive
Shake Off
Jung Nev's Antidotes
Inevitable
Bound
On My Own
F'oldin Money
Anecdotes + Antidotes in B#

Touch Sensitive opens the album in style, especially considering virtually the whole band walked out prior to this recording. Although not the greatest of Fall tracks, it is a catchy number and it is quite surprising this was not one of the band's biggest hits, especially with it being the soundtrack of a huge car advert.

This album has an eclectic mix of different styles, we have the classic Fall single in Touch Sensitive, the decent cover in F'oldn Money, a great '90's sounding Fall in Shake-Off, then almost a Led Zep sound to Jung Nev's Antidotes which sounds really good, Inevitable almost sounds like MGMT if you really concentrate and then there's practically a soft ballad in Birthday Song - all very interesting. Except Mad Men Eng Dog which I might need to listen to a few more times I think just to get anything from it.

Hostile
Cheetham Hill

Oleano

This appears to be quite a highly regarded LP of the 90's and it does have some interesting tracks here and there, but it cannot compete with the 80's output in any shape or form.

An improvement on the previous album Shift Work but still very much part of that mid 90's lull which started to improve again with the Light User Syndrome, not long before the group was sacked or walked out.

Anyway, Code Selfish includes the excellent Free Range, which is still the only original Fall single to crack the Top 40, this album also includes the hidden gem of Time Enough At Last which is essential Fall and The Birmingham School Of Business School which is also a corker.

Best Track:

Free Range
Time Enough At Last
Birmingham School Of Business School
Married, 2 Kids
So Called Dangerous
Return
Just Waiting

A bit more lively than Shift Work, and better for this reason, but once again, there are a few too many average tracks.

I remember hearing Free Range quite a bit on John Peel at the time before I really got into the Fall and wasn't too keen on it. I have come to appreciate it more now but it still doesn't quite feel like vintage Fall to my ears.

After seeing this reviewed in the NME at the time with a 10/10 rating, this became the first new Fall album I ever heard, and I quite liked it.

It was only in the following years when I bought the likes of Perverted By Language , Hex Enduction Hour and This Nation's Saving Grace that Shift Work seemed a little drab in comparison.

Edinburgh Man, The Mixer and A Lot Of Wind still sound great though.

Life Just Bounces
The Joke
Feeling Numb
One Day
Rainmaster
The Aphid
Bonkers In Phoenix
Pine Leaves

Quite an underrated one this, it is never mentioned as one of the high points of the 90's for the Fall but it cannot be too far off, out of the 12 tracks, there are only a couple that are below par really.

Life Just Bounces, Feeling Numb and The Joke are great, The Aphid is a joy, Bonkers In Phoenix is nice and odd but not so much that it cannot be appreciated. I recently discovered One Day too and that is a great little track.

This album is seen as a bit of a disappointment but I do feel it is quite underrated, there are quite a few good tracks on here, it could be better of course, but it is well worth checking out.
